A Strong Start to Senior School
Years 7 and 8 mark an exciting new stage as girls begin their Senior School journey. It's a time of real growth - academically, socially and personally - and Fahan is deliberately structured to respond to the needs of young adolescent learners as they find their footing in a bigger school life.
Every girl is known and supported through a dedicated Pastoral Care Teacher, a vertical House system, and a broad curriculum designed to help her discover her strengths before choosing electives in Year 9 and beyond.
The Fahan Years 7 and 8 Difference

Belonging from Day One
Every Fahan student belongs to one of our three Houses - Fenton, Franklin or Freycinet. In Senior School, Houses become an important part of each girl's daily experience. Students begin each day with their House pastoral group, providing a consistent and supportive start to the day alongside their peers. It is a time to connect, check in and strengthen the relationships that underpin student wellbeing.
Throughout the year, House spirit comes to life through swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, as well as Arts Week, Debating Week, House Music and Winter Sports Day. These shared experiences encourage teamwork, friendly competition and school spirit, while creating lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging.

A Broad Foundation, Built to Last
Years 7 and 8 are about breadth. Girls study core subjects across English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Health and Physical Education, alongside Design and Technology, Drama, Music and Visual Art. Languages are a genuine strength of the program, with both French and Japanese on offer.
The aim isn't early specialisation - it's giving every girl the chance to explore widely and find what she loves before taking on elective subjects in Year 9.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
Girls have access to a genuinely wide range of opportunities outside the classroom - from the Amnesty Group, Book Club and Writing Club, to private music tuition and ensemble playing, to Drama productions and Fahan's extensive sporting program spanning hockey, netball, rowing, AFL, soccer, water polo, badminton and more.
For a select group of Year 8 students, this also includes Fahan's National Student Exchange Program with Pymble Ladies' College in Sydney - a week-long, reciprocal exchange staying with host families and attending school alongside an exchange sister. It's a genuine step into independence, and a strong example of the kind of opportunity Fahan girls are given to build confidence beyond the usual school day.

Camps and the Outdoors
Outdoor Education is a genuine highlight of Years 7 and 8, with camps for both year groups designed to build courage, resilience and real friendships through trust and cooperation in the outdoors. It's often where girls form some of their strongest bonds with their peers.
