Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing

At Fahan, wellbeing is not just a priority – it’s a complete and unwavering commitment.

Your daughter’s wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe her academic, sporting and cultural achievements are built on a foundation of feeling safe, valued and connected. Our approach is evidence-led, informed by contemporary research, and specifically designed to meet the evolving and unique needs of girls’ education.

A Whole School Approach

Care Woven Through Every Day

Our whole School Pastoral Care framework incorporates routines for checking in on students, structured wellbeing programs, and classroom monitoring to ensure each girl’s emotional health is supported.

We celebrate diversity and inclusion, knowing that a girl’s confidence and capacity to learn will flourish when she feels safe, valued and connected. Fahan is committed to teaching, modelling and building behavioural practices that support not only the physical health of young people but also their personal wellbeing.

Big Sister Little Sister program at Fahan School

Big Sister, Little Sister

The Big Sister, Little Sister program is a much-loved Fahan tradition that connects students across every year level, creating friendships, fostering leadership and strengthening the sense of community that defines life at our School.

Every student, from Kindergarten to Year 12, belongs to a family group that remains together throughout her time at Fahan. Older students support and encourage their younger ‘Little Sisters’, building leadership, empathy and confidence, while younger girls are welcomed into the School by familiar faces who help them feel known, supported and included from their very first day.

Family groups meet each term for shared activities and celebrations, creating meaningful connections across the School. Established in the 1980s, Big Sister, Little Sister continues to be one of the most cherished aspects of a Fahan education.

Leadership and Life Skills

Leadership is woven through every year of a Fahan education. Our Positive Education program builds the foundations of strong character from Kindergarten to Year 12, and in Years 3–6 all students have the opportunity to take on responsibility under a distributed leadership model – leadership here is not reserved for the few.

In Year 9, the Lumina 9 program deepens this through four focus areas – Self, Lead, Give and Thrive – supported by outdoor expeditions and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. By Years 11 and 12, Fahan student leaders are defined not by title but by character: a willingness to listen, to push others forward, and to lead with compassion, humility and authenticity.
