In the first week of Term 2, our second group of Year 9 students set off on their chosen Lumina 9 camp - the Mountain Program.

Set amongst Tasmania’s incredible wilderness, the expedition took students through the stunning Walls of Jerusalem National Park circuit, where they encountered remote alpine landscapes, multi-day hiking and camping, and the challenges of self-sufficient travel. The group also tackled snowy conditions at Cradle Mountain before concluding the journey with a fascinating guided tour through Marakoopa Cave.

The Lumina 9 program is a unique part of the Year 9 experience at Fahan, designed to foster confidence, resilience, independence and leadership through challenge, reflection and real-world learning. A key element of the program is its student-led approach, with girls actively involved in planning, decision-making and shared responsibility throughout the expedition.

Throughout the week, students consistently demonstrated leadership, communication and perseverance, supporting one another, adapting to changing conditions, and embracing every opportunity the environment offered. From carrying equipment and preparing meals to navigating challenging terrain, they developed practical outdoor skills while strengthening teamwork and self-belief.

Experiences such as the Mountain Program encourage students to step beyond their comfort zones, strengthen connections with their peers, and discover what they are capable of achieving in unfamiliar environments.
