Fahan Senior School students delivered three memorable performances of DreamWorks' Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. on Thursday, 2 and Friday, 3 July, filling the Fahan stage with colour, humour and heart.

Audiences enjoyed a fresh take on the much-loved story of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippopotamus and Melman the Giraffe as they swapped the familiar surroundings of New York's Central Park Zoo for an unexpected adventure in Madagascar.

Under the direction of Christine Best, the production embraced a contemporary and highly stylised creative vision. Each animal character was reimagined as a recognisable modern archetype, creating a distinctive theatrical world. Alex became a charismatic showgirl inspired by Tina Turner, Marty a contemporary rap artist, Melman a fading Hollywood star, Gloria a fashion-forward style queen influenced by Vivienne Westwood, and King Julien the confident leader of a hip hop crew.

Combined with dynamic choreography, bold costume design and confident performances, the production offered a distinctive interpretation of the much-loved musical, providing our students with the opportunity to develop skills in performance, collaboration and creative expression.

Congratulations to every student involved, both on stage and behind the scenes. Our thanks to Director, Christine Best; Musical Director, Christian Palencia; Choreographer, Rochelle de Vries; Assistant Director, India Anderson; Costume Designer, Anja Reinalda; Production Manager, Brendon Veronese; and the many staff and families whose dedication made the production possible.
