21 November 2025
On Wednesday 20 November, our Year 9s took on Forest to Fahan - the culminating event of their Lumina 9 year. Students began the day blindfolded, dropped at mystery locations on kunanyi/Mt Wellington, and challenged to find their way back to School using only clues, checkpoints and plenty of teamwork. Along the way, they drew on the Lumina 9 themes of Self, Lead, Give and Thrive, navigating creative tasks, bonus challenges and a long walk down the mountain, through the city and into Sandy Bay.
A wonderful surprise awaited them at the finish line: their senior friends from Southern Cross Sandown Apartments were there to cheer them home. The day concluded with a wonderful ceremony at the Boarders’ Flat, where students were welcomed back by their Sandown friends and celebrated their shared achievement.
During the ceremony, Principal Mrs Meg Lawson congratulated the Year 9 students on completing what she emphasised was a significant challenge - one that demanded resilience, teamwork and confidence. She told them they should be very proud of themselves for the way they approached the day and supported one another from start to finish.
Thank you to our dedicated teachers and organisers for the care and planning behind this experience. Forest to Fahan was a standout moment in Lumina 9, giving our Year 9s a meaningful way to challenge themselves, support one another and celebrate how far they have come this year.
