In the final weeks of term, our Year 6 students shared their projects on the history of migration in Australia, presenting their work to classes from Kindergarten to Year 5.
Using vintage suitcases as symbolic representations of migrants’ journeys, the students vividly brought to life the stories and experiences of 20th-century immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Through extensive research, they developed detailed character backstories, sourced symbolic artefacts and historical keepsakes, and wrote heartfelt fictional letters to family members to capture the essence of each migrant’s story.
It was a wonderful learning experience that connected students across the Junior School, fostering empathy, curiosity and a deeper understanding of Australia’s rich multicultural history.
