This week, our Year 3 girls delighted audiences with three endearing performances of A Year with Frog and Toad, a musical written by brothers Robert and Willie Reale, based on the Frog and Toad children's stories written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel.
The whimsical show follows the woodland adventures of two great friends, the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad, as they celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special over the course of four seasons. The production offered the Year 3 girls a wonderful opportunity to showcase their creative skills with top class performances all round. The girls were accompanied on stage by the Year 1 students as adorable dancing frogs and Year 2 students as charming birds. Completing the collaboration, the Years 4 and 5 girls sang in the Choir.
Productions give students the chance to hone their skills and take on increasing levels of responsibility in the annual performances offered as they progress through the Junior School.
“I enjoyed bonding with my friends and dressing up in costume. I learnt the importance of being patient and quiet and really loved performing in front of my parents,” said Lucy, who played the Lizard.
“I liked learning about my classmates and seeing what they can do on and off the stage. I also learnt that turtles DON’T RUN!” commented Coco, who played the Turtle.
“This has been a really great experience, especially learning all the songs and dances. I really loved dressing up in the costumes,” said Florence, who played the Summer Narrator
I’ve loved being a Narrator; it was great fun! The most important thing I learnt wass not to talk in the wings!” exclaimed Rose who played the Spring Narrator
“I really enjoyed having important responsibilities like memorising my lines and the songs. The Cookies Dance was my favourite. I can’t wait to perform in more musicals,” commented Lauren, who played the Frog.
“It was great getting to know my friends as we spent so much time together during the rehearsals. I’ve loved acting and singing and hope to do more in the future. One thing I learnt about being in a musical is that they are complex!” exclaimed Grace, who played the Toad.
“The Music and Drama Program at Fahan encourages Junior School students to express themselves in diverse ways and is a wonderful opportunity for girls to gain a taste for the performing arts and the joy it brings,” said Head of Junior School, Amanda Evans.
Our Art Department created an amazing set which provided a spectacular backdrop for the performances. Congratulations to all staff and students involved in the outstanding performances of A Year with Frog and Toad!
