On Friday 1 June, Year 12 girls at Fahan School raised over $10,000 to support their chosen charities, the Pancare Foundation and the Freya Fund, at their fundraising event. The Cocktail Evening with Live and Silent Auctions is the major event of a number of fundraising initiatives that the Year 12 girls arrange throughout the year with proceeds going to their two chosen charities. The generosity of guests, sponsors and auction donors and their contributions to the event will have a big impact on these two worthy causes.
Freya Fund co-founder, John Williamson, addressed guests on the evening and stressed how instrumental the support of students at Fahan had been in allowing the Freya Fund to help families with seriously ill or disabled children.
Pancare Ambassador, Henry Nicholson, shared his own family’s story of battling pancreatic cancer. He spoke about the significance that improvements in research and increased understanding of symptoms and causes would make to families, especially when considering that the statistics have not changed significantly in over 40 years.
“Research and early detection is critical to pancreatic cancer outcomes, we are so thankful to the girls for choosing the Pancare Foundation this year,” said Henry.
Henry also visited Fahan School’s Years 11 and 12 Health Studies class to share his story and answer questions on Friday afternoon.
Along with contributing to these great causes, the 90 guests at the event were entertained by student musicians and enjoyed a delicious assortment of canapés.
“The Year 12 girls should be immensely proud of their efforts; the event was outstanding. All those involved are to be commended on their efforts. This is a wonderful outcome for the girls and their chosen charities,” said Principal, Tony Freeman.
