In 1940 Fahan School had been in existence long enough to have old scholars.
On September 22, 1940, nine of the 14 Old Scholars met to form the Fahan Old Scholars’ Association. These women decided to meet fortnightly to knit items for the Comforts Fund. They also raised money for refugee relief through the sale of sweets and programmes at the School plays. In addition to this they arranged the very first ‘grudge match’, playing tennis and hockey against the current Fahan students. These were important avenues through which Fahan women could retain a connection to the School.
In 2009 the Old Scholars rebranded themselves as the Fahan School Alumni Association, focusing on not only incorporating ‘old girls’ but also ‘old boys’. This team of passionate ‘Fahanies’ have dedicated themselves to ensuring that past students of the School can continue to feel connected to their Alma Mater.
Historical information about the Alumni Association has been taken from Gillian Winter's book Sixty Years of Endeavour, Fahan 1935-1995. This is an outstanding publication with great insight into the progress of the School throughout the 20th century.
