From Spotify Wrapped and Gen Z slang to awkward moments and school colours, this year’s Debating Week sparked lively discussion and friendly competition across the Senior School.
Throughout the week, students debated a range of fun and thought-provoking topics as Houses went head-to-head in a series of engaging contests. Topics included whether Spotify Wrapped offers insight into personality, whether awkward moments are more memorable than positive ones, and whether Gen Z slang makes communication more efficient and expressive.
A highlight of the week saw Fahan's Year 12 students take on The Hutchins Schools' Year 12 students in a spirited debate on the topic: 'Confidence can make any outfit work, with Fahan securing the win. The week concluded with the always-entertaining students v staff debate, this year exploring whether 'Fahan should return to its original green, brown and gold colours'. Students took the honours in a fitting finale to the week.
Win or lose, it was clear to see that the preparation, confidence and thoughtfulness shown across each debate reflected the strength of discussion, collaboration and critical thinking fostered through the program.
