Fahan School is welcoming the new term with a new but familiar face at the Nateby boarding residence: Kirsteen Devine is looking forward to her new role as Head of Boarding at Fahan School.
Principal, Tony Freeman, said, “Margo Eckerman is to be commended for her outstanding commitment to Fahan boarding over the last 12 years. We are delighted to have secured Kirsteen Devine as our new Head of Boarding, and we welcome her enthusiasm and fresh approach to boarding at Fahan.”
After three years in Queensland, Kirsteen and husband John returned home to Hobart this year. Kirsteen is already an established member of the Fahan Community: prior to her time in Queensland, she was a Senior Teacher at Fahan for 11 years.
Kirsteen and John have a great love for boarding and plenty of experience, having run the Hutchins Boarding House 2004–2009, and are pleased to be given the opportunity to lead the Fahan Boarding Community. John, who is State Manager for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, will join Kirsteen at Fahan in 2019 adding to the home-away-from-home, family atmosphere.
Kirsteen is looking forward to bringing her past experiences and knowledge of boarding to Fahan but is also intent on ensuring Fahan Boarding retains its uniqueness and culture. “Fahan is not just a school, it’s a family; a close community where girls have a variety of opportunities and participate enthusiastically. The support of a caring and committed environment allows our girls to develop and reach their full potential.”
With a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accounting and a Bachelor of Education, Kirsteen continues to teach Mathematics and Business at Fahan during school hours.
Her initial priorities will be getting senior girls prepared for forthcoming exams, winding down for the year and preparing for a fresh start in 2019. However, she is already excited about her first Christmas in the Fahan boarding residence – “I’ve been talking to the girls about Christmas plans and we’ve got some great activities in mind.”
Kirsteen adds, “I am looking forward to getting to know Fahan’s boarding families and supporting the boarders – most of whom I already know in a teaching capacity. I have been away from boarding for a few years and I am excited about joining this wonderful community."
