On Sunday 23 September, an audience of close to 150 people enjoyed a performance by Fahan students and alumni at the beautiful Mt St Canice Church.
The varied program ranged from classical favourites such as Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus to Adele’s Skyfall and a rendition of If this is Love, by English pop rock group McFly, arranged by musician, Mr Owen Davies. Long-serving Fahan School Music teacher, Mrs Stephanie Abercromby arranged the concert as an opportunity for the singers to perform in a venue with fantastic acoustics.
Year 11 student and singer, Katie Tranter, said: “Since the age of 11, Mrs Abercromby has not only been my singing and piano teacher, but a mentor in all things musical and outside of school life. She has taught me the value of hard work and dedication to my craft but also the strength gained from mistakes and losing. Commonly she would inform us, ‘I’m not here to tell you how wonderful you are...,’ and receiving a compliment from her truly meant you had done something exceptional. Mrs Abercromby cares deeply for all her students past and present and makes us not only better performers but better people each and every day.”
“Credit is due to the girls, the alumni and to Stephanie for their commitment and energy. The performance was the result of months of rehearsals and the audience’s response demonstrated the incredible impact their efforts made. It was especially pleasing to see how Stephanie brought current students and alumni together through their love of music,” said Principal, Mr Tony Freeman.
