13 December 2010
On Wednesday 8 December the Fahan Community and students in Years 7-12 attended the 75th Annual Speech Night at the Theatre Royal to recognise the exceptional achievements of our students and members of the Fahan Community.
The incredible performances from the Senior Orchestra, Senior Choir, Pieces of Eight, Senior Vocal Group, Year 7 and 8 String Group, Anna Fuhr-Evitt and Lucy Nichols were a fitting way to help celebrate the achievements of Fahan students in the Middle and Senior Schools. Ann Tremayne, Stephanie Abercrombie and the Music Staff put in a tremendous effort to ensure that each of these groups were performing to the best of their ability.
Principal, Tony Freeman, Head Girl, Bianca Johnston, and the Chairman of the Board, Kim Evans, all gave wonderful speeches, which each outlined why Fahan is such a unique and successful school for girls in Tasmania.
There were many deserving recipients of the Academic and Special prizes and each of these girls should be congratulated for their success during 2010.
In addition to the student prizes, the highly coveted Gerdy Jevtic Prize, which is awarded to someone within the Fahan Community who inspires others by their example, was presented to Fahan Alumna, Alice Bennett. Alice is a 1995 Fahan leaver and one of Tasmania's premier photographers. Alice is responsible for many of the images found on the new website and also in the new Fahan School Prospectus.
To all involved in the production of Speech Night, in particular Deputy Principal, Rosemary Sargison, and ICT Manager, William Lelong, thank you for ensuring that the 75th Speech Night was an outstanding success and an enjoyable evening for all.
