Judith Durham – Australia’s first International Pop Princess and a treasured Fahan Alumna – is returning home to Fahan School on Wednesday 8 August.
“I am very pleased to announce that Judith has agreed to speak at our annual TM Lecture,” said Principal, Mr Tony Freeman. “Judith has often spoken about the happy years she spent in Hobart, particularly her time here at Fahan.”
The Travers Morphett Lecture is an important event on the Fahan calendar and an opportunity for current girls to be inspired and encouraged by the achievements of former Fahan students.
Securing Judith for the TM Lecture is a fantastic achievement for the School, especially now that she is touring Australia and generating such a huge amount of media interest.
“I know quite a few Fahan families had bought tickets to Judith’s Hobart concert and were quite disappointed when the concert was cancelled. While the TM Lecture isn’t quite a concert, it is a great opportunity to introduce a new generation to Judith’s wonderful achievements. I know there are many of Judith’s past classmates and fans that will be keen to come along and hear what she has to say – and fingers crossed, we may even hear a song or two from Judith.”
Traditionally the TM Lecture has been held on School grounds but this year, the TM Lecture will be held at Hobart’s Theatre Royal in Campbell Street.
“This will be Judith’s only appearance in Hobart so we are expecting quite a turn out.”
It is also a nod to a recent interview in The Age newspaper, where Judith spoke about singing on stage for the first time at the Theatre Royal during a Fahan School play.
“Judith was already happy to be coming home to Fahan. By having the TM Lecture at the Theatre Royal, it gives her a real sense of homecoming.”
The TM Lecture will commence at 7.30pm on Wednesday 8 August.

To secure one of the tickets set aside for Fahan families and alumni, please quote ‘1960’ when making your booking, as tickets will also be available to the general public.
